My clients wanted to convert their detached garage into a two-story guest house, add an office and a bathroom to the main house and remodel the interior of the main house. They also wanted to connect the guest house to the main house with a covered breezeway. My design also had to solve an elevation change of several feet, to overcome a number of limitations posed by the location and structure of the original garage and to achieve a pleasing overall set of proportions for the two joined structures.
